How should I wash reusable nappies? Do they need to be washed before use?

Yes, your nappy should be washed before its first use - this helps build up absorbency. After that, just wash between each use like you would with any reusable item.

Here’s how to get the best results:

  • Pop them in the machine on a long cycle at 40°C with a non-bio washing liquid (ours is perfect!)
  • You can wash at 60°C occasionally, for example, if your baby has been unwell.
  • Skip the fabric softener or conditioner. These can coat the fibres and reduce absorbency
  • Make sure the machine drum is no more than three-quarters full, so the nappies get a proper clean
  • Before washing, pull out the inner towel and stick the hook and loop tabs together. This helps stop any snagging.
