Our dishwasher tablets are wrapped in a biodegradable PVOH film that dissolves during the wash cycle.
We explored making the tablets completely wrapper-free, but that would have required lining the boxes with plastic laminate to stop moisture from getting in. Unfortunately, that would have made the packaging non-recyclable, and based on last year’s usage, over a tonne of waste would’ve ended up in landfill.
The PVOH wrapping we use is independently tested and certified as readily biodegradable to the OECD 301-F standard. We’ve also looked into alternative materials like seaweed-based films, but current supply levels can’t meet our demand, and the cost would significantly increase the price for customers.
For now, we believe this is the most responsible option available, but we’re always on the look out for new ways to be more sustainable with both our products and our packaging.
